Denon debuts the new DN-X1500 DJ Mixer designed for ultimate control and
system versatility

DJ is proud to unveil the new DN-X1500 4-channel 12" mixer, the latest
addition to Denon’s ongoing line of professional DJ equipment. Designed to
complement its critically acclaimed DN-S5000 and DN-S3000 tabletop CD/MP3
players, this new tabletop mixer features a built-in sampler, matrix
switching, effects, and a USB port. The Denon DN-X1500 offers an intuitive
control surface that is adaptable to any application and suited to the
diverse needs of turntablists and mobile DJs performing in clubs, bars,
and an endless array of venues.
Based on Denon’s award-winning design and extensive history in the
development of advanced DJ technology, the DN-X1500 offers 4 full-featured
channels integrated with the “world’s first” 8-channel input matrix
control. Each channel features 45mm channel faders, Gain control w/PFL
levels, and 3-band EQ (on/off switchable) with parametric frequency
adjustment, as well as a “studio-quality” 45mm P&G (Penny & Giles)
multi-channel assignable crossfader with Contour control. Main Mic and Aux
Mic inputs (one-XLR and two-1/4" TRS) are included with Main and Aux/Sub
level control and EQ. On/Off Talk Over and Post switches are also
provided.
The DN-X1500 comes with a host of onboard digital effects and features
such as an 8 second sampler, 9 effect types, and an Auto/Tap/Manual BPM
counter. The sampler utilizes audio from any of 6 mixer sources
(Ch1/2/3/4, Mic, Master), and offers edit options including Loop, Reverse,
Reverse Loop, and Single playback, with overall Pitch Control adjustment
of up to +/-100%. Effects include cutting-edge DSP processing, along with
Delay, Echo1, Echo2, Filter 1, Filter 2, Flanger, Auto Pan, Trans, and Key
%.
An external stereo send/return Effects Loop is provided and can be used in
conjunction with the Internal effects giving the DJ an abundance of power
across multiple channels. Aux Out options include REC Out (stereo, RCA)
and Booth Out (unbalanced, RCA) with Level control, which offers a unique
and practical assign switch to monitor any channel and effects beforehand.
The Digital (coaxial) output utilizes audiophile quality 24-bit Burr Brown
converters for optimum sound quality. The DN-X1500’s Master Out section
has separately attenuatable Balanced (stereo, XLR) and Unbalanced (stereo,
RCA) outputs with Master Balance VR control and Stereo/Mono select
switches on all XLR and RCA jacks. A stereo headphone output with preset
selectable EQ features Headphone Cue, Effects Cue, Mono/Split/Stereo, and
Cue/PGM/Pan controls, which provides added monitoring options for the DJ.
The DN-X1500’s feature set is further enhanced with easy-to-read
individual PFL input meters and a highly luminescent FL Tube display for
controlling effects. Denon has also provided another groundbreaking mixer
technology by outfitting the unit with a USB port for onboard software and
effects upgrades, which are created in response to user input and offered
free of charge via web download. An optional 19” rack mount kit will also
be available.
The Denon DN-X1500 4-channel DJ mixer will be available January 2004 with
an MSRP of $999.00.

A standard Orion Orbitor set includes a 5-piece shell kit with a 22” x 18”
bass drum, 10” x 7” and 12” x 8” rack toms, a 14” x 14” floor tom, and a
14” x 5.5” snare drum. An 8 x 7” rack tom and a 16” x 16” floor tom are
available as optional add-ons. These ultra-thin all Maple shells include
single point contact low-mass lugs for maximum resonance and color matched
lacquered bass drum hoops. Like all Mapex Artist Select Series drums,
Orion Orbitor kits are covered by the Mapex warranty.

of three new models. The new Showmaster guitars—featuring a choice of

The sleek new Showmaster guitars offer incredible versatility for
guitarists who push their instrument to its limits, and who also
appreciate the elegance and style of a finely crafted piece of art.
Stunning transparent finishes over quilted or flame tops highlight these
beautiful guitars. Both the Showmaster HH Quilt and Showmaster SSS Quilt
feature a basswood body with a carved quilted Bubinga top, which offers a
tone unique to this exotic wood and comes with a Transparent Brown finish
that shows off the figured details of the grain.

Hughes & Kettner is
launching a new line of bass amps called Quantum, created with the goal of
providing the punch of a tube amp with the flexibility and precision of a
solid state amp. The initial Launch consists of four combos.
First up is the QC310, having a single 10" speaker, boasting 250 watts,
and weighing in at 38.5 lbs.(17.5kg). Next we've got the QC412, which has
a 12" speaker, pumps out a massive 400 watts and again comes in at 43 lbs.
(19.5kg). Moving along, the next combo ready to grace the stage is the
QC415, this time a 15" speaker has been installed also producing 400 watts
of power. The weight of this one? 53 pounds (24kg). Finally, on the
initial launch there's the QC421, a 2 x 10", 400 watt combo weighing in at
64 lbs. (29kg). All share the same front and rear panel
controls/connections.
The four main ingredients that make up this unique new bass range are the
power amp section, the preamp, the speakers and cabinet construction.
Here's the detailing behind it:
Seasoned players know the deal: 100 tube-driven watts simply sound louder
than 100 solid state-powered watts. The reason for this is that tube power
amps' complex dynamic properties enhance audio signals with transients.
These added frequencies enrich the spectrum, making each note sound more
concise, more explosive, and louder. In other words, our perception of
volume is shaped not only by pure output power; the content of the signal
is equally important.
Though the musical qualities of tube-driven power amps are heartwarming,
their weight-related drawbacks are backbreaking and budget-busting. Due to
the nature of tube designs, they are bigger, heavier, more expensive and
more sensitive than their solid state kin. The ideal solution would be a
solid state power amp with the dynamic, frequency enriching qualities of
tube circuitry. And that's what Dynavalve technology is all about.
Dynavalve technology is the product of many years spent researching tube
power amps' tone-shaping processes. Rather than coloring the sound of a
solid state amp, the Dynavalve circuit "forces" the amp to behave just
like its tube-driven counterpart. The result: In comparison to
conventional solid state power amps with the same power ratings, Dynavalve
yields far better tone, much more sound pressure and greater punch,
according to the company.
The preamp section plays a pivotal role in the overall design of a bass
amp. It is the interface between bass player and instrument on one side
and the amp and power circuitry on the other. Quantum amps' inputs feature
the Tube Touch Circuit. Resistant to high gain saturation, it's designed
to respond to the players' touch. Another practical feature for the
gigging musician is the Tube Growl knob, which dials in compression and
tube saturation.
Quantum Series' voicing section uses the company's Pure Parallel EQ
technology (a breed of EQ otherwise found in high-end studio gear) which
reduces undesirable filter effects, transforming the four-band EQ into a
more effective, sound-sculpting tool.
All Quantum amps are loaded with advanced speakers featuring Neodym
magnets. Not only does this technology reduce weight significantly, it
also creates a more concentrated magnetic field for improved impulse
response the company claims. Speakers trigger faster and with greater
precision, ensuring truer response to the player's touch and enhancing
loudness.
Development throughout the range included the requirement to render the
crucial overtone spectrum with uniformity. The projection pattern of
conventional amps' high-frequency horns is a tight cone. And because these
horns are driven by crossovers, phase shifting is inevitable. This is why
Quantum series loudspeakers were designed with integrated HF systems.
While the 10" speakers use parallel membranes (that is, a dual cone
design) to this end, the 12" and 15" woofers feature a completely new
technology. A machined aluminum dome (DuraDome) renders the voice coil's
high frequency output. Both of these technologies deliver a wide pattern
of throw, and a rich overtone spectrum that blends with the main
membrane's low and mid-frequency response.
Many years experience designing, tuning and manufacturing loudspeaker
enclosures enabled the Quantum development team to build cabinets that --
like fine acoustic instruments - make the most of resonances.
Intelligently engineered and arrayed panels and bracings, and the
housing's robust, six-ply Okum plywood (which weighs about half as much as
standard cabinet woods) deliver low-end projection and balanced midrange
resonance. Because the enclosure is designed to project these resonances
uniformly across its entire surface area, the bass signal can be localized
precisely from any position on the stage, according to Hughes & Kettner.

Yamaha Drum artist Russ Miller
had the idea of taking old studio technology and packaging it in a unit
that can be used in the studio or on the road. The SKRM-100 Subkick is a
low-frequency capture device that picks up the low frequencies
(100Hz-2000Hz) that a normal microphone can't. When used in conjunction
with a normal internal microphone (for the attack), your kick drum has a
jaw-dropping bottom end like you've never heard before.
6.5" Speaker/Diaphragm
We took a 6.5" speaker and shock-mounted it into a 10" drum shell and
reverse-wired it to an XLR jack to convert the speaker diaphragm into a
microphone diaphragm. This allows Subkick to pick up the low-end that a
normal microphone can't.
10" x 5" Birch/Mahogany Shell
Mounting the speaker into the shell focuses the sound to direct the signal
into the diaphragm. Using our shell makes the Subkick as easy to use on
the road as it is in the studio and it looks great with any drum kit.
Comes with specially designed stand
Subkick has our tom-mounting bracket mounted directly to the shell. This
mounts to a CL-940 ball clamp that slides into the base of a double braced
800 series snare stand.
Multiple Applications
The flexibility of the stand allows you to use the SKRM-100 for a variety
of applications in live or studio situations. It can be used in
conjunction with an internal microphone on bass drums and floor toms,
djembe, bass guitar cabinets, pianos...your imagination is the only
limitation.
